Beeswax and sugar scrubs

Everybody always talks about using beeswax while embroidering, even with silks. How does one get the beeswax out of the silk/floss when the project is completed. I always wash my counted cross stitch pieces so i'm assuming the beeswax would come out in the wash. Will that also apply with silks? Can one even wash silks?

I really want to try some silks but after the fiasco with Trebizond silk and my dry hands, i need help. i've been reading about the sugar and/or salt and olive oil/miracle whip scrubs for patchy skin on this site. Doesn't the sugar/salt dissolve in the olive oil and miracle whip?

thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Beeswax and sugar scrubs

Hi, Sharyn, I embroider with silk a lot and only use bees wax on couching thread. Some silks can be washed. Some bleed dye which is why they say dry clean. That said, I've gotten some silks wet for various reasons and they were fine, as long as they didn't bleed. If they bled, I kept rinsing with cold water till they stopped.
As for the scrubs, I got a sugar scrub for Christmas. It has oil in it and works really well. The sugar doesn't seem to dissolve in the oil. I usually use the exfolliant I use for my face on my hands, too. It does help. The more I've used silks the less problem I have with snagging, though. Anne
