Embroidering woollen gabardine

Hi Mary
Most books about embroidery on wool seem to concentrate on wool blankets.
I was looking at woollen gabardine to embroider as a cape/shawl.
Do you think it would work?
Kind regards

I know I saw a jacket with some couched embroidery somewhere, maybe threads magazine. I think they couched black cording onto the red gabardine. Looked really elegant. Anne

Hi AnneG
Thank you very much for that great idea. It sounds very effective, and faster than wholescale embroidery.

Hi, Catherine - If you're going to go the route of couching cording, you might look up "Soutache" embroidery - there are some old books (I think there's one online, even) that have soutache patterns. They're mostly kind of scrolly, knotted-work looking designs that translate really well into embroidery with couched braids and cords. Just a thought! ~MC

Thank you too for your very helpful website. Not only has it put the zing back into my embroidery but has lead me to great books and ideas I otherwise wouldn't have known about.
All the very best,
