Class Description

The Nesting Place is a beautiful crewel needlebook designed by renowned needlework artist Bobbi Chase. It is made from fine linen embroidered with wool, linen, and silk threads. From the coordinating vintage lining fabric, the fine Scottish felt wool insert embellished with a touch of embroidery, to the perfectly placed freshwater pearls, the needlelace edges, and the little Mokuba ribbon rosettes – in all its details, it is a charming piece and a perfect place for nesting your favorite embroidery needles.

Nesting Place

The Nesting Place is an ideal learning tool. It will teach you several elements of surface embroidery on a scale that is manageable in a short amount of time. You will learn how to set up an embroidery project, you will experience stitching with three types of thread (wool, linen, and silk) in a variety of stitches, and you will see how to construct and finish a unique and serviceable needlebook.

Nesting Place

The class will take you step-by-step through every aspect of creating your needlebook. The kit contains all the materials necessary for completing your needlebook. Each week, full step-by-step instruction with photos will be posted in the class forum, downloadable in PDF format for printing. Video instruction exclusive to this class will enhance the written instruction.

The class level is listed as “determined beginner & beyond” because I believe that if you are determined to learn something, you can learn it. However, it is helpful to know at least the basics about stitchery: how to thread a needle, how to mount your work in a hoop or on a frame, etc. You are also required to transfer your design. Instructions on design transfer are included in the class.

Nesting Place

Enrollment in the class includes The Nesting Place materials kit (see below), as well as access to the private class forum where you may participate and interact with other students, post pictures, ask the instructor questions, access instructional videos exclusive to the class, and receive timely feedback. Feedback may also be given privately via e-mail if preferred. Class participation is not required, but students must visit the forum weekly to receive step-by-step lessons and to view video instruction.
