I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch (remember the '80s?). Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on...read more

Happy New Year, 2025 – What a Start!

Amazon Books

Wooohoooo!!! It’s 2025!

I remember as a kid thinking of future years and giving them dates. 2025 sticks out in my mind as a year that I perceived as the most futuristic, sci-fi-ish sort of date ever.

I have no idea what I thought 2025 would be like in my kid imagination.

But I’m pretty sure I didn’t picture it like it is right now.

Right now, 2025 is really snowy.

Happy New Year, Epiphany, 2025

Today’s little note is to wish you all a Happy New Year, to get 2025 off to a (gradual) start here on Needle ‘n Thread, and to let you know that I haven’t slipped off the face of the earth.

While I’m pretty sure most of the world out there has moved on from the holidays (I’m not 100% sure, because I can’t get out of my house to find out), we’re celebrating the Epiphany today. This is the feast that commemorates the visit of the Magi (the Three Kings) at the stable in Bethlehem to honor the newborn Christ child, and it is officially the end of the twelve days of Christmas and the Christmas season.

So Christmas here isn’t cleaned up yet – which works out really well, because we had the most seasonal and abundant heaping of snow over the weekend.

Snow, Kansas, Jan 2025

That’s my backyard yesterday afternoon, while it was still coming down. It was a lot of snow for our area of Kansas!

Needless to say, we aren’t in the studio today, and we may not be in tomorrow, either. It depends on The Digging Out.

So our Christmas Holidays have come to a slower end than we expected! It’s not necessarily a bad thing!

We did manage to ship most orders from the shop last Thursday and Friday, so if you ordered anything over the holidays, it’s on its way.

If I get into work before Wednesday morning, I’ll be sharing a new book with you. If not, we’ll just have to play it by ear. Working remotely from home only works well when you’re prepared. Whoops.

I hope 2025 is off to a great start for you and yours!

See you soon!
