Mary Corbet

writer and founder

I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch (remember the '80s?). Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on...read more

Coming Soon on Needle ‘n Thread!

Amazon Books

Well, there’s a lot coming soon on Needle ‘n Thread – a lot of embroidery content, tips, techniques, tutorials, projects, supplies, books, resources, and more. Everything you expect on the website… with a few new twists and surprises for 2025. Like hand embroidery, the Development of Things here is a slow process, but you’ll see the fruits of our labor as 2025 unfolds.

Right now, it seems that the biggest “coming soon” is that we will be coming (back) soon. We’ll be back to the full swing of work on Monday. I’m counting on the upcoming above-freezing weather to do its job and clear up our roads this weekend.

In the meantime, I’m still working from home. As we speak, I’m looking out at the steepest and longest hill street in our town (believe it or not, this part of Kansas is not flat!), which happens to be the street bordering the west side of my home. It is still compacted with snow and ice and barricaded. My driveway, halfway up that hill, is inaccessible. Needless to say, the street has become the premier destination of every kid with a sled. It’s fun to watch!

Enchanted Embroidery by Jenny Adin-Christie

Many of you have asked, and I’m here to officially tell you that yes, we will be carrying Jenny Adin-Christie’s upcoming new book (this month!), Enchanted Embroidery. In fact, when I heard it was coming out, I hastily got on the list for a good supply of these books. I have no doubt it will top the charts in popularity among the needlework world, and it will probably sell out everywhere pretty quickly.

Jenny’s ingenuity in embroidery design is unsurpassed; this book is a collection of nine of her exquisite needlework masterpieces.

I don’t have the book in hand yet, but it’s published by Inspirations Studios, so we know that, besides being excellent content, the book will be beautiful. As soon as my little paws are on it, I’ll give you an in-depth review.

Next week, I plan to have the book listed in the shop for pre-orders. Normally, I don’t do pre-orders because of shipping kerfuffles and the like, that can’t be predicted. But I’ve decided with this one, I’ll pre-list half of my ordered inventory for those who want to reserve a copy in advance. And then, when the books come in, we’ll ship the pre-orders immediately. Once we’re sure we’ve received all our inventory, and we’ve separated out any that might not survive the shipping process unharmed, I’ll list the rest of them. If the pre-orders sell out, don’t worry – there will be more in stock as soon as the books arrive!

And that’s also when I’ll give you a good look at the inside of what promises to be a magnificent volume.

Truly, I’ve been anticipating the arrival of this book more than any kid anticipates Christmas – or a snow day (or five).

So that’s what’s up here! I’m itching to get back into the studio and get some production rolling!

Of course, my heart goes out to those in California affected by the fires. I’ve heard from friends and family in the area, and it’s heartbreaking and pretty horrific. You’re all in my thoughts and prayers!

Wherever you are today, I hope you are safe, secure, and happy!

See you Monday!
