A Puzzling Diversion: Studio Life!

Amazon Books

Last week, at the end of one of Those Days, when we’d reached That Point in our work when we just needed a break to regroup our thoughts and figure out next steps, Anna and I enjoyed a very pleasant diversion here in the studio.

You see, the mail had come, and it brought us a Surprise!

Wooden Eye-Spy Puzzle

I love surprises!

Well… I love delightful surprises. I don’t like devastating surprises. But then, who does?

This happened to be a delightful surprise!

A box arrived from Wentworth Wooden Puzzles, sent from Marilyn with a very kind note.

As I opened the beautifully wrapped box and the drawstring bag inside, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I smelled that warm smell of cut wood, so I knew that, whatever it was, I was definitely going to like it!

I pulled out one of the curiously shaped pieces and recognized a tiny portion of one of my embroidered felted eggs! It was, in fact, our Easter Eye-Spy, in real (as opposed to virtual) jigsaw puzzle form!

Wow! The timing was perfect! We needed a break – and here it was, delivered from afar, in a fabulously fun puzzle form!

The puzzle pieces were intricately cut in interlocking shapes, in about four or five configurations, so that it was quite challenging to put together.

You know we had to work the whole thing, right?

And we did!

It was the perfect antidote to one of Those Days. Working the puzzle gave us time to sit back a bit, chat about next steps and ideas, and just take a much-needed break.

It’s a fabulous resource, too, so I thought I’d share it with you! I think custom puzzles make great gifts for puzzle lovers.

And while this isn’t exactly about needlework, it’s obliquely related to the subject. If nothing else, it’s a good reminder to step back from your projects if things are getting frustrating. Anna and I had both been working on projects that were becoming a bit frustrating and tiresome. Taking a break helped us get back to them with renewed interest the next day – plus, we were able to chat out many of the problems we were running into.

I hope you enjoy seeing our diversion as much as we enjoyed working it. Thanks so much, Marilyn!
