I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch (remember the '80s?). Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on...read more

Color & Sparkle & Cut!

Amazon Books

One of the really fun parts of working this job is when a box arrives that we aren’t expecting – or that we aren’t expecting yet. You know, one of those boxes with stuff in it that we haven’t seen before, but that we ordered on good faith that it would be everything we dreamed it would be.

That happened twice last week!

And both times, the boxes had very exciting things in them.

I just don’t know which to show you first…

Dovo Embroidery Scissors 3.5in stainless

Ok. Scissors win! Why, hello, Anne!

As many of you know, Dovo has begun manufacturing their embroidery scissors again in small batches. The scissors now have names – I don’t recall their having names before, but the styles they are now producing are differentiated with names.

The trick for me – being a Small Unknown in the world of needlework retail – was to get in on an order in a timely manner, so that I could stock my much-loved Dovo scissors, too.

Dovo Embroidery Scissors 3.5in stainless

I managed to do that last year. And finally, the first round of Dovo scissors has arrived!

And guess what?

They’re just the scissors I knew they would be!

The “Anne” variety is 3.5″ scissors of brushed stainless steel.

For over a hundred years, this style was Dovo’s most popular pair of embroidery scissors for very good reasons:

They are no-nonsense scissors. They’re not floofy or fancy – they’re just really well made, smooth as butter, sharp, fine, small, and effective. Everything you want in a good pair of scissors!

I’m happy to say we are carrying them, and the plan is that we’ll be able to keep a fairly steady stock of them. They may sell out, but be assured I’m already working on getting more.

Later in the year, I’ll be adding other variations, including the Hardanger scissors with the flat blades.

Wooooohooooo! See how fun getting a box can be?!

But wait! There’s More!

And Then There’s the Color & the Sparkle

You know these shaded metallic thread sets that I wrote about last year?

So many beautiful shades! So many possibilities!

And now…

Oh yes…

Shaded Metallic Embroidery Threads

Purple.

Ranging from the deepest, darkest, richest purple, to brilliant mid-shade jewel tones, to light purple, this collection was certainly compiled for every Passionate Purple-Person on the Planet. It’s stunning!

Mix it with gold, and it’s positively regal!

Mix it with green and gold, and you’re ready for any celebration!

The green and purple together are lovely. So evocative of spring and summer! Green and purple have long been a favorite color combination of mine. (Did you know that the original Needle ‘n Thread website was green and purple? It was! And that was a fifth of a century ago.)

Ah me. Time flies.

Anyway, all the shaded metallic sets are in stock presently, so if you’re gearing up for some spring and summer stitchery that wants to sparkle, now’s a great time to grab them!

Learn About Metallics

What’s Up in the Studio?

It really was a banner week last week, sorting new stock and organizing shelves and making things pretty. I’m not sure we can top that this week!

There is one exciting thing happening: Over a few afternoons, I get to work in my garage, enjoying the delectable aroma of pure 100% beeswax while preparing more beeswax petites. I usually pour a few candles while I’m making the petites, too, because … why not?

Aside from that, I’m slogging through taxes and paperwork.

Anna is diligently stitching, lucky her. I’ll show you that update soon!

And I’m still working on a design for this project. I’ve developed a theme for it, so now it’s a matter of designs and stitching.

All the above, while enjoying a Big Spring Tease – temperatures near 70, after the -20’s last week.

Birds are singing. The sky is blue. The sun is shining. All looks new!

Life is good.

I hope it is equally so for you.
