I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch (remember the '80s?). Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on...read more

What’s Needle ‘n Thread? This is a Good Belly Laugh!

Amazon Books

Today, I have to share something that gave me the greatest, most delightful belly laugh that I’ve had in a long, long time.

And since it has to do with Needle ‘n Thread, I have to share it with you. I know it’s a sorry excuse for a blog post, but it is so dang funny, and we all deserve a good chuckle now and then!

My old Bitmoji self below (when Bitmojis were actually fun) gets across only a fraction of the laughing-out-loud that I did when I saw this.

In fact, that I’m still laughing! Oh. My. Gosh.

Over the twenty years that I’ve been writing Needle ‘n Thread, I have written a lot of content about hand embroidery.

I’ve also had a few aspersions cast my way – it’s just part and parcel of being a blogger, you see. It helps to have “duck skin,” as my mom called it. Bloggers have to let mean statements, false accusations and so forth roll off your back, like water off a duck.

Some of those “aspersions,” to wit:

I don’t write the blog myself (yes I do).

I use a team of writers (no I don’t).

I steal other people’s information, designs, and yes, stitches (huh?).

I’m too positive (this is a sad one!).

I write about Christian stuff too much (do I? well, I don’t know what to say about that. My blog, my content?).

I’m a snob (if I come across as one, I apologize).

I try to make embroidery exclusive to rich people only (au contraire)

…among other such comments over the years.

You might not know things like this are said “behind the scenes” to a blogger. But they are, and while they can hurt a little at first, it’s just part and parcel of the human condition. People can be mean. I’m sorry for that, but life still goes on. I don’t make other people’s meanness my problem by giving it much of a thought.

But the Absolute Best accusation about me (about Needle ‘n Thread) that I’ve ever heard came through the other day:

What a Joke!

That’s a screenshot sent in by a reader, who saw it in some comments on social media or another blog. She didn’t specify where, and I didn’t ask. It’s not something I would ever spend time pursuing.

Plus, I know it is certainly a joke.

It has to be! Every time I look at it, I laugh.

For one thing, generative AI (the way we know it today, anyway) is only about four years old. Needle ‘n Thread is over 20 years old.

For another thing, anyone who has ever read my website or has seen my stuff would never actually think this.

I’m guessing it was posted to see if it would go anywhere or if it would stir up any comments or interactions. And it worked! LOL!

Hey, don’t feel in any way insulted for me about this, because I assure you, I don’t. If the comment was actually written by a “real” person and that person does believe this, then I guess I’d be a little sad for that person.

But I would still laugh!

Have a terrific weekend!
