Good Online Needlework Deals…

Amazon Books

Today, in celebration of the First Day of School, this is short post! I thought I’d point out a couple needlework deals worth taking a look at, if you’re in the market for supplies and want to save a little bit of money.

First up, is Cosmo floss. Lots of people have asked where to find it, and in all the places I found online, it was running anywhere from $1.00 – $1.06 / skein. A reader sent me a link, though, to (a quilt shop that is now closed online anyway – updated 2016) on sale right now for $0.88 / skein. So I thought I’d let you know about that, in case you want to rejuvenate your supply or try the thread out, for a little bit of a discount. (When you go to that link, you have to scroll down the page to get to the individual skeins.)

Don’t forget that Hedgehog Handworks (closing business in 2017 – updated 2016) is running a special during August – free shipping to US customers, and half price shipping for international customers – in celebration of 23 years in business. Though I was swearing off supply shopping until October, I admittedly took advantage of the deal and ordered another slate frame and a new tambour hook and needles. My excuse? Well – I can use them for class demos, right?

Nordic Needle has their “New Catalog” sale going on right now. There are a lot of “little things” there for the stitcher that are on sale – accessories and so forth. You’ll also find some blackwork and sampler charts on sale for fairly good prices right now, so if you’re interested in this type of needlework, you might want to look those up – it’s a good time to find that perfect design for winter stitching.

So those are three good deals I’m aware of right now – I’m sure there are more out there, so if you happen to know of a favorite needlework shop having a sale, feel free to list it below!

Now, I’m off to school! Tomorrow, a book review for you, on a great little book for neat projects that will appeal to adults and kids alike! See you then!

  2. Hi Mary –

Ah, back to school.I have spent MUCH too much money at Hedgehog this month…. Slate frame, new crewel threads… But oh am I going to have fun with it! 🙂 (It’s waiting for me at my PO box as I type this. Must go pick it up, but the kitchen needs cleaned first!)

  3. Thank you for this site! My husband is studying to be a pastor, and while we’re out on vicarage, I’ve decided to start making his stoles. I wanted to do the embroidery myself, but didn’t know where to start. Your videos were so helpful, that I’m now addicted!

I’m wondering if you can help me out with a few things- I’ve tried to go back through your archives, but haven’t found what I’m looking for. I’m wondering where I can get the thread I’ll need, and how to estimate how much I would need. I want to use silk, but I’m also looking for some type of thicker gold thread to use in outlines and for the plaited bread stitch. Is there a good place you can direct me?

    Thank you so much!

    Leah
