I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch (remember the '80s?). Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on...read more

Voided Monograms – and Other Good News!

Amazon Books

Today is a Milestone Day here in the studio!

After I-Don’t-Know-How-Many-Years (ok, I do – it’s been 9 years ago this very month!), I have finally completed the design collection and stitching guide for Voided Monograms!

Now, it’s true. I haven’t been working on this for nine years running. But sometimes, it feels as if I have!

I’m excited to make this new PDF – Voided Monograms: Design Collection & Stitch Guide – available to you! Many people have asked for it over the years, and at long last, here it is!

These voided monograms are packed with color, stitches, texture – everything that’s fun about embroidery – and a lot of leeway for your own creative input and manipulation. They’re great fun to stitch, they will teach you all kinds of lessons and help you hone your embroidery skills, or simply allow you to relax and stitch your heart out!

Voided Monograms: A Design Collection with Stitching Tips and Instructions

Voided Monograms is a 47-page downloadable PDF. In it, you’ll find two layouts for the voided monograms – a round voided monogram alphabet and a square voided monogram alphabet.

You’ll find a materials guide for the supplies I used when stitching the samples. You’ll find step-by-step progress photos and explanations for stitching each monogram layout (square and round), with stitching tips and techniques along the way. You’ll find suggestions and ideas for variations and for finishing. And you’ll also find a handy stitch dictionary that covers the basic forms of the stitches used on the voided monograms.

The pictures in the PDF are large and clear, and the text is easy to read.

And of course, the bonus with digital publications like this is that you can zoom in and really see the detail on the stitching!

But you can also print the PDF if you’d like. You can use your own home printer or you can take it to a printing service and have a personal copy printed. Or you can simply print the pages you need – like the design pages – and then use your tablet or mobile device to reference the PDF while you’re stitching.

Throughout the past almost-decade, I’ve worked different variations of these types of voided monograms. You can see some of them above. I’ve finished them as needlebook covers, as framed pieces, and – I’m happy to say – they also fit in the top of the decorative boxes that we’re using for Garden Swirl.

You can see the variation with the white embroidery on natural colored linen in the photo above – and you can read about that project in detail here, with tips and suggestions for finishing as a needlebook with a decorative beaded edge.

So if you’re keen to take on the excitement, challenge, and versatility of these colorful, textured monograms, you’ll find the PDF download for Voided Monograms available for purchase here. Please read the product description carefully, especially regarding the electronic delivery of the PDF. If you have any difficulties, of course, just reach out and I’ll give you a hand!

But Wait, There’s More!

If you happen by the shop, you might also notice active listings for the Garden Swirl Materials Kit for the current stitch-along and for the decorative box that we’re using to finish Garden Swirl. Both are currently available here in the shop. Wooohooo!

Garden Swirl in dark decorative box

We have contacted (to the best of our ability) everyone who had a kit or box on hold and was waiting for one or the other, as well those who wanted advanced notice for either. The boxes that we have in stock right now are the darker boxes. We will not have the lighter boxes in stock until November, at the earliest. If this batch of darker boxes sells out, never fear. We do have more coming next week!

Concerning shipping: We will be out of the studio on Friday, August 15th, so shipping for this week will happen today and tomorrow, until noon. Any orders placed after noon tomorrow will ship on Monday.

Coming Up

Our next stitch-along installment for Garden Swirl will be next week! As mentioned above, we’re off this Friday here in the studio, so look for that on Monday.

I’m working on a couple book reviews at the moment, too. And still battling my way through color and thread selections on this project.

And I’m also trying to get orders together for some favorite European books and products, that can enter the country before August 29th. I’m not sure how that’s going to work out, due to the August holiday in Europe. If you’ve had your eye on any of the Elisabetta Sforza books or Guilianna Buonpadre books that we stock, you might want to consider investing in them now, as the prices will likely increase on those books when restocked in the future.

For now, I’ll wish you a great weekend, since I won’t be here on Friday to do so! Hope your week is going well!

  1. Ohhhh, this is sooo exciting!
I just downloaded the Voided Monogram Book, and I ‘m thinking Christmas ornaments. The white ones will work great for that.
    Thanks for making it!

    Cheers!
