Reader’s Work: Beautiful Icon Embroidery!

Amazon Books

Just a quick little note today, to offer you some inspirational stitching from a reader!

Icon Embroidery

Lynn posted some photos in the Ask & Share gallery of her latest icon embroidery, and I thought I’d share those with you here, for those who have an interest in ecclesiastical needlework.

If you have questions about it, though, I’m afraid you’ll have to swamp Lynn with them over in the Ask & Share!

Icon Embroidery

The icon is 14″ x 24″ and worked in silk and metal threads. I love the colors in it!

Thanks, Lynn, for posting the photos in the Ask & Share gallery! And congratulations on a beautiful job!

  1. Wow, wow, wow! What wonderful work! The colors are beautiful and it really reminds me of medieval work only better. It has the same perspective that medieval icons had before depth was figured out and the motion of the piece and the colors are amazing. It also has a nice emotional feel to it. Will this go to a church? Congratulations on the lovely piece.

  2. The photos on Ask and Share show the artist-embroiderer’s work to perfection. It’s very rare indeed to see such depth of emotion captured in eyes in any art form. Such a gift.

  4. Thank you for sharing this with us, Mary.

Lynn your work is absolutely beautiful! I’m so in awe of the time and energy that you spend doing this type of needlework. I’m sure that the angels are dancing with joy when they see this type of stitching on behalf of the church.

  5. I can’t say anything about this work that hasn’t already been said, it is absolutely stunning! I spent a lot of time visiting churches and cathedrals in Europe, and I now I want to go back to further study their textiles.
    Inspirational in every sense.
