I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch (remember the '80s?). Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on...read more

Merry Christmas!

Amazon Books

To all my dear friends and stitching cohorts, I hope you and those dear to you have a very happy Christmas, full of innumerable blessings!

Merry Christmas!

I’ll be spending the day with my family most of the day. Visitors usually pop in and out here at home during the morning hours, and then we gather at my sister’s house for Christmas dinner, plenty of good cheer, music, games, and other lively fun!

I’m pretty sure I won’t be stitching today unless I find a quiet hour somewhere, but I plan to pick up my needle and thread with gusto this week. I’m plying the needle on a couple projects that have been neglected over the past several months, so I’ll show you new progress on those soon.

If you haven’t signed up for the last two installments of A Stitcher’s Christmas here on Needle ‘n Thread, you might check them out on the website. You’ll find #8 here (full of beautiful embroidery supplies) and #9 here (a fabulous pair of hand-crafted embroidery scissors). I’ll be drawing for both prizes tomorrow morning!

Then I’m planning to take a few days off from the website, so that I can do a little planning for the New Year. I’ll resurface at the end of the week!

May your Christmas be filled with peace and joy – and a whole lot of jolliness!

Love,
Mary

  4. A merry and peaceful Christmas to you, too, Mary, as well as to all the other stitchers out there!
Here in Germany, we gather on Christmas Eve for dinner and handing out of presents. My children came with their partners and my grandson, and as customary in the Ore Mountains, we had a dinner made of nine dishes, everyone of them having a special meaning. But this year, it was ten dishes, because the boyfriend of one of my daughters is from Portugal and he made an extra Portuguese dish, which was very tasty! After dinner, I could hand out my five handmade stockings with the little gifts, each stocking embroidered with one of your Christmas trees – if you were interested I can upload some photos of them to Facebook and give the link. 🙂
There’s been no time for stitching for me since friday either, but I’m gonna make up for it soon. Take your time to relax from all the hustle and bustle of the past days. I’m looking forward to seeing you again! 🙂

  5. Thank you Mary, Merry Christmas to you also and Blesssings of the season to you and your close ones. We are enjoying a white Christmas, happens about once every 10 years or so, and will be doing the same as you later in the day. Isn’t this a wonderful time to get together with family and friends, enjoy their company and remember the reason.
I always say to my friends this time of year, “Eat hearty and healthy, enjoy your togetherness and play fair but play to win.”
    Best regards ~ Brenda

  6. A perfect stitching session for me:
I’ve puttered in my flower garden and tidied the house. Everyone is gone. I’m sitting in my recliner situated where I can see outside and see my flowers and watch the birds, especially the hummers. I have a small table near me for stitching tools and something to sip on. What I’m sipping depends on the time of day and the temperature. I’m able to stitch uninterrupted and with no nagging schedule or obligations. During this perfect stitching session, every stitch is perfect (ie. no unstitching is required.)
