I learned to embroider when I was a kid, when everyone was really into cross stitch (remember the '80s?). Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on...read more

Sneak Peek: Twinkle, Twinkle… Coming Soon!

Amazon Books

Let’s kick off Wednesday with a little sneak peek!

Every year, I try to release at least one kind of Christmas ornament / decoration project here on Needle ‘n Thread – something accessible for beginners and beyond – that folks can use for their own holiday preparations or for gift-giving.

2025 Christmas Ornament: Twinkle, Twinkle Embroidered Star

Some years, I’ve released a whole collection of designs (like Twelve Trees for Christmas, Snowflakes: Twelve Winter Designs for Hand Embroidery, and Twelve Wreaths for Christmas).

Some years, we explored an ornament as part of a stitch-along, like this Christmas Tree ornament project or last year’s Christmas Mitten stitch-along project. Some years, I’ve released a full-fledged embroidery kit (like these Mini Sampler Stockings kits).

I find a great pleasure in stitching Christmas ornaments: they’re small and manageable projects that offer a load of satisfaction when they’re finished.

And they are a fabulous conduit (and excuse!) for bling.

What’s Christmas without a little sparkle, after all?

2025 Christmas Ornament: Twinkle, Twinkle Embroidered Star

This year, I designed a little project called Twinkle, Twinkle, that we’ll finish into a very satisfying ornament featuring – you guessed it – a star.

The project will be presented as a stitch-along that we’ll explore together during November and the very beginning of December, finishing in plenty of time for Christmas.

And, as usual, we’ll have kits available for the stitch-along project.

The kit for Twinkle, Twinkle include full skeins of floss, an abundance of Miyuki beads, six Austrian flatpack crystals (I can’t use the name of the brand, but if you know anything about Austrian crystals in the jewelry-making world, you are probably familiar with the brand), pristine white embroidery linen with the design pre-transferred for you, needles, wool-blend felt, interfacing, and mounting board for constructing the ornament.

In short, you’ll have everything you need to create your own special ornament for 2025! You’ll only need to supply scissors, a hoop, some white sewing thread, and a few incidentals (like pins) for assembling.

While creating Twinkle, Twinkle, you’ll learn several embroidery stitches (with and without beads), many little tips and tricks, and of course, the finishing techniques, which include stitching a coordinating scalloped beaded edge.

As the time gets a little closer to launch the kits, I’ll let you know exactly when that’s going to happen. I suspect it will be right at the very beginning of November.

I can’t wait to show you the completed ornament! It’s a super fun design to stitch, it’s got a lovely beaded edge, and oh! I love the felt backing, too – it’s exquisitely reminiscent of a beautiful sky. So pretty!

So stay tuned for more news on this project and the release date for the kits. I’ll keep you posted!

Hope your week is gliding along splendidly!
