Ooooh! I want to share this upcoming Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA) virtual lecture presentation with you!
The presenter is Katherine Diuguid, and she’ll be taking the participants through her creation of the Burgo de Osma Retable Sampler that she designed and executed for the Art Institute of Chicago.

You can read about the sampler and see some really wonderful and information close-ups of the work on Katherine’s own website, here. It’s a foretaste of what you’ll get in the presentation.
You can see the Virgin and Child altarpiece on the Art Institute of Chicago’s website, here. And delectably, you can click on the image and zoom in to see it pretty closely. You can also read about its history, provenance, techniques and materials. If you zoom in on the lower center panel of the resurrected Christ, you will see the soldier that Katherine used in her sampler.
You can register for the upcoming EGA Virtual Lecture (it’s happening Saturday, November 8) here on the EGA website.
If you know you can’t make the live, you can wait until after Nov 8 and register separately for the recorded lecture.
As you can probably guess, this topic thrills me no end. I signed up for the virtual lecture once it went public. For EGA members (I’m a member-at-large – no chapter around here), the cost is only $5. If you’re a non-member, no problem! You can still sign up, but the price is $25.
If you can’t make the lecture, then at least take a close look at Katherine’s webpage on the project. It’s fabulous!
And that, my friends, is your needlework explorations for the weekend! Hope it’s a jolly one for you!
Coming Up…
I’ve got a beautiful book to review for you. I’ve also been doing some video work for the upcoming stitch-along, Twinkle, Twinkle. We’ll see how all that edits out!
I’ve been picking away at instructions for Plique-á-jour, and I’m really hoping we can get that out before Christmas. If we do, it will be right around the end of November. I’m working on it!
Stay tuned for all this … and more!
