Still trying to stitch slightly ahead of the season, I spent this past weekend working on a new autumn embroidery design that I first mentioned to you here.

Whenever I try out a new embroidery design like this, I end up having to work it several times. I want to know, after all, what kind of glitches might turn up. I want to know if it’s a reasonable design for stitching in a reasonable amount of time. I want to know if it makes sense to make it available the way I envision making it available. I want to know how different threads and colors will work on it.

And I want to know if I should add to the design, subtract from the design, or leave it just as it is.

To discover all these things, I get the pleasure of stitching the design more than once! And, as is practically always the case, I change my mind on many things along the way.

Good morning, and happy Friday! Today, we’re going to continue the saga of reframing an embroidery piece that we started talking about last week, when I showed you this botched frame job.

On Wednesday, we looked at Part 1 of the reframing process, and now we’re going to finish that up.

Last week, I shared with you this botched framing job of an embroidery project that was causing me a wee bit of worry.

So many of you chipped in with great advice – thank you so much! I decided to re-do the frame job myself, salvaging the material components (the frame, mat, glass) and re-doing all the labor components of the frame job.

In fact, I was dying to open the thing up, just to see how they approached the job in the first place.

So, today, I’ll show you part one of my fix – where I disassemble the frame, remove the embroidery, and get it ready to re-frame it. And then Friday, I’ll show you the methods and materials I use for mounting and re-framing the work.

On to today’s topic…

I’ve written about framing embroidery projects here on Needle ‘n Thread only a few times in the past. It’s a subject, though, that must come up, if you embroider things that you intend to hang, finished, as art or decor in a home or elsewhere.

I’ve had quite a bit of work framed over the past 15 years, most of which has gone on to other places. Some of it, I’ve framed myself, and some of it, I’ve had professionally framed with different “grades” of professional framers.

Why is it, though, that every time I take a piece to a highly endorsed professional framer, I end up … well, a little disappointed?

I picked up a piece from a professional framer earlier this week. This is “high end” framing, with a framer who is not only highly recommended, but apparently experienced in framing needlework.

I’m in a quandary right now over the piece. You might remember it – it’s this piece, Fantasia in Silk.

A few weeks ago, when we talked about the whole Christmas in July thing, I asked about seasonal stitching.

Do you stitch seasonal things during that particular season, or do you stitch ahead of a season? I’ve always been lured into seasonal embroidery during any particular season or just shortly ahead of it, when I’m Really Yearning for a change of seasons.

I must be yearning for Autumn! Over the weekend, I put a little time into testing out some embroidery designs that I’ve been doodling around with for a while. They’re simple designs, but pretty, and great for relaxing with some stitching during the chillier evenings of Fall.
