I’m not sure who decides these things, but in the US, there are a plethora of bizarre “celebrations” and strange acknowledgements that be-speckle our calendar. For example, February is not only “National Embroidery Month,” but it is also “National Canned Food Month.” Additionally, it’s National Grapefruit Month, National Snack Food Month, National Weddings Month (shouldn’t that be June?), Responsible Pet Owner Month, and my favorite: International Twit Award Month.
I received an e-mail yesterday, February 1st, asking if I am going to celebrate National Embroidery Month in a special way on Needle ‘n Thread.
My answer is pretty simple – during the month of February:
I’m not going out of my way to eat canned foods.
I’m not going out of my way to eat grapefruit.
I’m not going out of my way to eat snack foods.
I’m pretty darned certain I’m not going out of my way to get married.
I’m not doing anything different with my pet than I ever do.
If I receive an International Twit Award, I’m not telling anyone about it.
And as far as embroidery goes, I will probably just keep doing what I do.
Happy National Embroidery Month!
And a happy one to you too Mary!
I'm glad you don't intend to get lost this month. Well… if you don't go out of your way you more than likely won't get lost. Duh & ouch!
Love the patchwork picture with all your inspiring work. Would make a good banner for this National Embroidery Month of yours.
Keep well, cheers, Kath.
Beautiful mosaic!
Mary,
I definitely agree with all of your comments, and I love your photos. On a side note, I just found this goldwork cockerel from Rajmahal in Australia. Here's the link: http://www.rajmahal.com.au/Goldwork.aspx
Happy Stitching in February!
Mary, it is also national smocking month as well.
Hmmm. Well, I'm planning on embroidering all month, and I'm celebrating my 8th anniversary TODAY, so I guess that covers the weddings part…
I don't think I'll go out of my way for any of the others, though. 🙂
All the days have to be passed by Congress… I sometimes think they do it so they can say "Well, we worked together to pass *****," even if they don't do anything else!
Happy stitching!!
Happy embroidery month to you too. Your collage of embroidery is truly inspiring.
Pretty Darn Funny, Mary!
National Embroidery Month? Really? I don't usually have good timing, but gee, I am gearing to do some embroidery for the first time in years! And then National Smocking Month too? Alicia Paulson over at Posie Gets Cozy has just posted her first pleater-smocked project. Do crafty people just pick up the vibes in the air or something? If so, send me some "adept" vibes, so I can start off with some success, struggling a bit here…..

Twit month? Really? Hey, I know a few people that would fit in that category, but you certainly aren't one of them! Nice to know there's a National Embroidery Month though.
The things I am learning about this country I have moved to!! I find myself puzzled most of the time…
G'day again Mary,
A twit (noun) has something in common with thread and yarn users.
It's a thin or weak place in yarn caused by uneven spinning, so the Google dictionary tells me.
Every one probably knew this and I'm the twit who didn't !! Mmmm…learn a new thing every day.
Cheers Kath
