Continuing with my A-B-C Revitalization Series here on Needle ‘n Thread, today, we’re on the letter B.
In this case, B is for Birds!
It wasn’t until I started exploring b-words that I realized just how many birds I’ve featured in embroidery over the years.
Let’s take a look…

Perhaps one of my favorite birds on the website is this elaborate wingéd thing that features in two different projects (and is also available as a free pattern).
The project above is called Jacobean Bird, and it was worked in tandem with this project (Jacobean Sea – which is definitely coming out as a kit! And hopefully soon!). You can follow along with the development of both of those projects here, in this project index.

This particular bird design (seen above in tambour work) is also part of my tambour embroidery tutorial series here. I refer to her in this case as Gertrude McFuzz, because she reminds me just a little of Dr. Seuss.
Finally, you can find a free download for this little bird of paradise design here, if you want to stitch it, too.

Another bird project on Needle ‘n Thread – with a free pattern download – is this “Penbroidery” bird.
This was a project that I embroidered for inclusion in a book, and you can read all about that – and you can download the free pattern – here.

If you enjoy counted work, you might like to download the free pattern for this border featuring a few birds. You’ll find it here.
You can use that for cross stitch, needlepoint, petit point, Assisi work, filet (on net) embroidery … so many options!

Above is a little embroidered bird I stitched from a kit that I reviewed. You can read about it here.

And here’s another teeny tiny little bird that I embroidered from a kit. You can read about this one here.
And while there are other little birdy bits here and there around Needle ‘n Thread, there’s only one other that I’d consider very significant – it’s probably the most popular project here on Needle ‘n Thread.
But guess what? I’m going to save it for another letter in this ABC Revitalization series! Wait patiently! We’ll get to it soon!
